by Lisa Meyer
Members of the race team competed in these events last weekend. Highlights! ...

RSO outdoor Points Series 2007 event #1, June 2, Aylmer track: (points are collected at each of the four points series events over the summer, with final winners being announced at the end of the season)
Skaters: JF, Stephane, Allain, Dominique, Annick, Lisa, Bailin, Hugh, Sergio, Mike and 1st-time track racers Dan Thompson and Benoit

RSO #1 (Saturday June 2nd) Highlights:
- For Mike, the highlight of Saturday was being able to skate with JF and Stephane for most of the 10K race; for the first time he got to skate with the big boys! ad, but had Mike Garvin chasing him at a good pace!!! Stephane eventually caught up. Peter Doucet and Sergio came zooming by, at one point, but JF didn¢t have the required jump to catch up to them! Stephane, Mike, another young skater from Gavin Thulien's skate group and JF worked together for the majority of the laps. With 5 laps to go Stephane and JF picked up the pace and finished third and fourth.

- JF was very pleased with his first ever RSO event.
- Lisa: Mom was happy just to get out and compete in her 1st RSO event. It really helped to have the cheering support of the PanAm team members Martine, Peter, Brian and Morgane. Lisa skated her 10k time 3 minutes faster than she did at the Provincials two weeks ago!
- Stephane¢s 1500m was a bit slower than previous years, but he had a good 500m. Excellent team work with J-F during the 10000m!
- Dominique had her best 10K race of the season, constantly attacking the pack that she was in, and challenging everyone in the group. Spectators mentioned they were quite amused with this race! She finished 3rd in that group for the 10K.

Coupe Québec Roller, event #1 of the 2007 season, June 3, Montreal:
Skaters: Stephane, Allain, Dominique, Mike, Sergio, Lisa, Hugh, Bailin

Highlights:
- Dominique took bronze in Senior Elite
- Mike tied for gold in Masters Elite
- Hugh took silver in Junior Elite
- Bailin took silver in Junior Elite
- Lisa came in 1st in Masters Recreational
- Hugh and Bailin skated with Paisley and three other skaters in a tight pack for the whole of the 10k at 29km/hr great teamwork! At the sprint finish, Paisley managed to pull out to win, but Hugh and Bailin were just one second behind her in a photo finish.
- Mike's 300m time trial improved by a second over provincials, and he finished 3rd (by a couple of wheels) in his 1000m race with an average speed of just over 36kph. To top it off, he won the 10K elite masters race! - his first win ever! He lapped some of the other skaters with an average speed of just over 32kph. The weekend was very encouraging for Mike as he previously thought of himself as only a marathon skater.
