When skating in Ottawa, generally skate on paths only. Local city law prohibits skating on sidewalks and roads. You may ride the bus to get to the local paths, but must remove your skates while on the bus. Local law does not require a helmet to be worn, however IT IS STORNGLY RECOMMENDED. Any ambulance driver will tell you, not wearing a helmet is a one way ticket. For more more information on local by-laws related to skating please see the City of Ottawa page.
