Youth program underway

You can still join ... next session June 25
OISC is introducing the Youth Inline Skating Program
designed to teach inline speed skating techique to
youth aged 9 to 13. The program is open to members
and non-members. Registration is required in
both
cases, because participation is limited.

Congratulations to all the Ottawa skaters who
participated to successfully at the provincial outdoor
inline speed skating championships:

Hard, intense, fun
Acceleration means to engage repeatedly in hard
intense effort followed by rest.
Here are three acceleration-based, recovery oriented
workouts that can be easily modified based on your
skill level and current level of fitness.

Win early bird prizes: Register online before June 30!
The Ottawa Inline Skate Festival will again take place
Sunday Sept 3 on Colonel By in downtown Ottawa -
along the scenic Rideau Canal.
New
start
times We have moved some of the start
times in order to allow ore skaters to consider
registering for 2 or even 3 of the 5 races:
10 km at 1:20 pm
2 km at 1:45 pm
5 km at 2:05 pm (20 minute gap between
the 2
and the 5 allows more kids to do the 5 as well)
42 km at 2:10 pm
21 km at 4:05 pm (10 minutes later than
2005 to
give more skaters a chance at doing the 42
and 21
km)
The race course will see only minor changes: We're
moving the start/finish closer to Bronson Street
so spectators can enjoy more of the
action.
Top three finishers male and female
will receive:
marathon: prize money ($125 first; $100 second;
$75 third)
half-marathon & 10 k: merchandise
2 and 5 k: winners ribbons
all finishers receive participation medals
All skaters who register online before
July 4
, are eligible for prize draws for K2
merchandise, including bearings, back packs, skate
bags and yes, a brand new pair of K2 Skates!
Calling all volunteers
Our volunteer Festival organizing committee is looking
for about 100 volunteers to handle road closures,
water stations, course marshalls, registration and
information desks, sweat check, logistics, recovery
station, chip pick up, medal hand out. If you can
help out leading up to the Festival or can volunteer
the day of, please e-mail

Events in Montreal, Cambridge and beyond

Upcoming event updates
The Canada Day Marathon is taking place on
July 1st in Cambridge, Ontario, and will feature a
mass start (all skaters start together).
The
RSC Canadian Inline Marathon will
take place on July 9th on the F1 race track in
Montreal with staggered starts for different
categories. Some
skaters may be using the July 9th event to qualify for
the Roller Sports Canada Marathon Team to attend
the upcoming World Championships in Korea.
National speed skating championships are taking
place in Montrea on July 4 & 5. Details are
here.

OISC and all of our activities are organzied by a
volunteer board of directors that relies on club
members to volunteer for our programs, from
NCC/Alcatel Sunday Bikedays to regular training
sessions for rec, fit and speed skaters, to the
Ottawa Inline Festival and trips to the Laurentians's
pristine pavement. Thanks to all of you for
making it happen!

Trip report from Petit train du nord
|
|
June 10
7 incredibly dedicated skaters, Gary, Robin, Mike, Jim,
Melissa, Kim and Hugh, ignored the dismal forecast of
rain for June 10 and were determined to have a
great day anyway!
