Inline skating news, events, expert advice and more

Dear Inga,

We've launched our new website with many new services, like the mileage club, an interactive activity calendar, discussion forum and all the latest news and updates.

On a Roll is evolving right along: a new look, new publishing schedule (every 2 weeks). What's not changing is the editorial mix, because you've told us you like the expert articles, news and event updates and skater stories.

Change of training venue for May 9

See you at P8 in Gatineau Park
North loop

We're good-to-go for another scenic season of skating on our 3.5 km route. It's a club favourite, and unless you plan to outskate the mosquitos and black flies bring bug repellent
Fitness/speed program for May 9
Directions to P8

Wednesday night fitness skates

May 10 - Plage Moussette
May 17 - Ottawa River

Aylmer path

Turn hump-day into a fitness social night. Everyone at every level is welcome. Various speed and fitness bunnies will lead groups on a variety of pathway routes taking advantage of the region's 174 km of paved paths. Chances are pretty good that most routes will end up at a patio or pub for a post-skate cool-down and some good times with skater friends.

ING Ottawa inline marathon update

Cut off time extended to 70 minutes
Startline Ottawa

It's official: this year skaters will have 70 minutes (not 60) to complete the first lap (21 k) of the marathon. So if you are on the fence because of the cut off time, take another look at the marathon.

Straight talk on carbohydrates by Beth Mansfield

Kenyan runners like to say: You must eat to train and race hard - not to get skinny

Athletes who are “watching their carbs” may end up feeling tired and drained in no time. This disappears rather rapidly when they begin to stock up on carbohydrate-rich foods. While carbohydrates are every athlete’s best energy foods this does not mean slurping away on soft drinks, stuffing in plates of pasta or wolfing down middle of the night brownies with ice cream.
