PROGRAMS

The Ottawa Inline Skating Club has been offering spring/summer programming for several years. With us, you can get hours of guidance and tips to improve your skills and fitness. You can train and even get ready for a personal best in a marathon; or perhaps you'd prefer to enjoy our social events and group skates on Ottawa paths that end with some quality time at the local pubs. The club also organizes special skating events and trips, as well as a year-ending charity event.

New skaters are welcome to try a couple of sessions before buying a membership to take full advantage of our programming and member benefits

If you have never skated at all, either on ice or wheels, we recommend you first learn the basics from a friend or check out our Try and Learn program during Sunday Bike Days.  Once you are comfortable with the basics, join us for training on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and/or for our social skates and events.

Special Events

Throughout the season the club organizes special events and trips.  The P'tit Train Linear Park trip is a must! Local events include the incredible Eddy Matzger weekend at the end of June, time trials throughout the summer, and a special King of The Mountain race in the Gatineau park in early August.

Social Nights

Wednesday nights were made for fun and fitness! Join us for group skating on the scenic Ottawa parkway paths and stay for a cold drink afterwards at a local pub. While tips on technique or performance are available to those who want a little more instruction, the focus of these skates to make new friends and build fitness while enjoying the outdoors.

Sunday Bike Days

Through the summer the NCC with sponsorship from Alcatel closes the Ottawa Parkways to traffic for Sunday Bike Days. Joggers, walkers, cyclists and skaters can enjoy the roads between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Our club volunteers patrol the parkways offering safety tips and first aid assistance. The club also offers free drop-in Try and Learn sessions at our tent on the Eastern Parkway.  If you have never skated before at all, these sessions are an excellent way to learn the basics in a fun and encouraging environment.

Training Nights

The club's regular training nights are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Typically Tuesday nights are held at the P8 loop in Gatineau park, while Thursday night sessions are held at the NRC campus.  In the early season Tuesday night sessions may be held at Asticou or at NRC until the park is open to us.  These sessions are instructor-lead but skaters are free to choose to skate socially, for fitnes or to take part in performance-oriented training.

Time Trials

Time trials are a great way to benchmark your progress through the summer and prepare yourself for marathons and other racing events.  Even if you are not a performance-oriented skater, time trials can be used to measure your fitness level throughout the summer. In addition, fun races and a special King of The Mountain race will be held later in the summer.
