Free Try & Learn Sessions

Free - Learn To Skate Lessons on Sundays


On Alcatel-Lucent Sunday Bike Days, from June 1st until August 24th, The Ottawa Inline Skating Club will provide a series of FREE skating clinics at our tent on the Rockcliffe Parkway. These workshops are free to the public, courtesy of Alcatel-Lucent and the NCC. Registration for each session is on a first come first served basis, with sign-up beginning at 9:00 AM each Sunday.

Workshops will be facilitated by the Ottawa Inline Skating Club Inline instructors. These workshops are designed for new skaters that want to learn about skating saftey, inline skating equipement, and try out basic technigues including stride, turning and braking.

  • From June 1st to August 24th (13 weeks total)

  • Sessions run from 10:00 to 11:00 am

  • Participation will be limited to a maximum of 20 per session and registration will be required.

  • Sign up is on a first come first serve basis starting at 9:00 AM

  • On rain days, the sessions will be cancelled

Mandatory Equipment

Inline skates of course, plus helmet, wrist guards, and knee pads are mandatory. No exceptions will be made. Safety first! We have a small quantity of helmets and protective gear for loan during classes, courtesty of K2 Skates.

Program Outline

"Learn to Skate" Beginner Session - 10:00 am to 11:00 am

In these sessions you will learn:

 
  • Proper safety equipment fitting
  • Proper skating stance
  • Forward skating
  • Heel stopping
  • A frame turning.
