The Turkey Roll
62.4km, 58km, 48km, Scenic Charity Tours
Saturday, October 10, 2009
9:00 am start
Enjoy Ottawa's many safe recreational paths, great National Capital scenery, superb fall foliage, and help The Ottawa Food Bank all at the same time.
The OISC Turkey Roll will depart and return from Dick Bell Park. Park in the most eastern parking lot (entrance to park at intersection of Carling Avenue and Bedale, West of Andrew Haydon Park). The departure time will be 9:00 am with an expected arrival time of between 12:30 and 2:00pm. Rain or shine.
Participants should be capable of maintaining an average pace of between 14 and 25km/h over long distances, negotiating curbs, steep hills, open roads, crosswalks, paving stones, wooden boardwalks, dogs off leashes, gravel, wet leaves, and less-than-optimal pavement. Having said all that, over 80% of the route takes place on dedicated recreational pathways with good to excellent pavement. And the scenery is spectacular.
This tour serves as excellent preparation for longer distance events such as the Défi de L'Île de Montréal.
Not into skating very long distances? That's OK, not all of us are! There will be a group of recreational club skaters who will be taking it easy, and taking a short cut. While the long distance skaters are thinking about kilometer number 62, some among us (and I won't name names!) will be thinking of...beer.
This tour is unsupported, meaning you must carry your own food, water, and supplies. Traffic signals and proper path etiquette must be followed at all times.
Registration is $25 in cash or the equivalent in dry or canned food. 100% of proceeds go to The Ottawa Food Bank. Each participant will receive a tour kit with lots of goodies to help them through their inline skating adventure.
Please check this page for updates as we get closer to the date.
