Play Time

I could not agree more with Ted Spiker (Outside Magazine, May 2005). Too often we have a habit of "turning exercise into self-mortification and the best way to boost your fitness is to get outside and simply have a blast. Not only is playing a lot more pleasant than spending endless hours on the treadmill, it actually maximizes your endurance, builds more muscle, and gets you in far better overall condition".

I get a real kick watching my kids and teens during my mountain bike camp because they constantly remind me of the importance of PLAY instead of TRAINING. Play, play and play on your skates! Remember recess when you were a kid? Well, see your workouts as recess and have a ball. That does not mean, however, that proper technique goes out the window!
