SELF GUIDED

Self Guided Training

Unfortunately, inline speed skating is not a well supported sport in Canada. There are very few high level coaches available. Clubs and training programs are available to the inline skater, but club sessions may not be very frequent. Even when training with other skaters at a club, the developing skater may find themselves in between the fitness/ability levels of other groups.

Ultimately many inline skaters will find there are times when they must guide their own training. Presented below are a series of articles that will help you focus your training in various ways when you have no coaching available to you, or your skill level is in between where other groups are training at.

Whenever possible, it is very much worth while to seek out a speed skating coach and work with them to develop a training plan. A speed skating coach can help you plan for improvements and give a highly detailed plan for how to train. While the material presented here is a good general guide to self directed training, it does not take into account your personal fitness level, gender, competition calendar etc. If you have the financial resources, seeking out a speed skating coach is highly recommended.
